Painterly Portraits
LRT Studio is the commission-based portrait practice of Lex R. Thomas. The studio offers intimate, painterly portraits created through careful listening, observation, and trust. Each piece is approached as a collaboration rooted in presence rather than replication.
What I Create
LRT Studio specialized in custom gouche and ink portraits on paper.
These works are:
- Painterly rather than photorelistic
- Interpreted, not copied
- Grounded in mood, color, and expressive detailing
Subjects may include:
- Individual portraits
- Couples portraits
- Companion animal portraits
- Select objects or places with personal significance
The Process
Inquiry
Begin by completing the commission intake form. this helps determine scale, timing, and whether your request is a good fit for the studio.
Consultation
Selected projects move forward with a brief consultation over text to discuss tone, intention, and reference material. work on the project will begin once a service agreement has been signed and the 50% deposit is paid.
Creation
Work is completed using your preferred material on archival heavyweight paper. Progress imagess may be shared selectively.
Completion
Once finished, the remaining 50% of the commission price is due. the piece is carefully packaged and delivered after final payment.

LRT Studio accepts a limited number of commissions at a time.
